Although it is not seen firsthand, action on land STILL impacts our waters. Industrialization has a profound impact on marine pollution. At EcoBranders, we are mindful of where we source our products and work with suppliers and manufacturers that provide transparency to reduce our impact on all communities and ecosystems.
The promotional industry contributes to ocean pollution in multiple ways, all of which have greener alternative methods.
ISSUE:
Most manufacturers use single-use plastics in their packaging, which can end up in waterways and break down into microplastics, harming sea life.
SOLUTION:
Switch to sustainable materials and packaging.

One of our suppliers, PCNA, offers hundreds of sustainable products made from organic and certified materials while diverting waste from landfills by upcycling 35 million plastic bottles.
ISSUE:
Improper waste disposal is also very common.
SOLUTION:
Enforce responsible waste practices such as recycling and investing in wastewater treatment for chemicals, dyes, heavy metals, etc.
Our supplier, Storm Creek, prevents contamination by fully avoiding restricted chemicals that are harmful or a potential health concern.
ISSUE:
Lastly, manufacturers are most commonly known for their use of fossil fuels, which release an overwhelming amount of CO2 into our atmosphere, contributing to ocean acidification. Oceans absorb as much as a quarter of all man-made carbon emissions, which ultimately changes the pH of surface waters. Moreover, fossil fuel emissions are further exacerbated by the shipping of products. (high emission shipments)
SOLUTION:
Switch to renewable energy and/or invest in carbon offsets. Also, consider reducing package weight while decreasing the number of packages in transport by filling containers until they are full.
At EcoBranders we partner with ClimeCo, an organization working towards clean energy and a low-carbon future. Our partnership allows orders to ship carbon-neutral at no extra cost to our customers.
Other great methods towards sustainability include implementing circular practices, CSR and EPR programs, green tech, sustainable supply chains, and educational programs.
We know traditional practices are harmful, and transitioning to sustainable practices can be challenging. Fortunately, we have multiple options, making it easier for marketers to support the blue by going green.
